January feedback

Research and Planning - 9
Planning and research is partially incomplete, but there is evidence of engagement in the process. There is proficient research into similar products and some research into potential target audiences. However this last research is very general and hasn’t been applied well to Kannika’s own project. There is proficient organisation of actors and locations etc, although some of is work seems to be for a previous filming idea and needs updating. The weak area here is the planning, scripting etc of the film itself. There is no evidence of storyboards, shot lists etc, and the script is not applicable to the film that has been produced. There is a problem with all of the images on the blog in the first half, none of them are showing and overall not much care has been taken with presentation.
Main Task - 40
The music and sound throughout are tackled proficiently. The child’s song follows conventions of horror, calling on films like The Woman in Black and Insidious. Excellent casting, using a child is effective and brave. The titles follow conventional order, but feel a little rushed. I would have liked to see more careful placing of them within each shot. Thought was put into the mise-en-scene, but the lighting let it down in parts. More careful thought into back lighting in the child’s room and downstairs would have added to the atmosphere. There is a variety of shot types, but not as much as I would have liked to see. There are sequences being built up, but again I would have liked to see more close-up shots throughout. There is a good cliff hanger at the end. Overall a proficient film that shows clear understanding of the genre.
