evaluation- question 1

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The conventions of my group’s horror contained a suspenseful account of tension. In one of the scenes the innocent boy who is holding a knife, like all of a sudden he went up to grab a knife and stands in front of the bedroom door. This part of our film was done so that we could draw in the attention of the audience making them want to know and see more and then, it automatically goes in to a cliff hanger. This holds the audience’s attention, which then makes them more aware.

The title of the film 'The Curse of The Illusioned Mind' hints or helps to explain what the overall storyline of the film is about. The 'illusioned' links or is connected with an understanding of a person's hallucination. This relates to the plot of the film. This is a common convention that movies or horror films do as the Title of the film usually has a link with the film or helps to give out an idea to what the film will be about. an interesting and eye catchy title helps the audience to remember the tile easier as it is the last thing they see in the trailer before the billing block.

we challenged conventions of a typical horror opening scene by having a young vulnerable boy as the victim. this is challenging conventions because stereotypically it is a fragile female who is the victim. we also had a dominant female as the villain. We switched the gender roles in order to challenge h normal conventions.

The whole film opening is narrative. We used establishing shot to establish the boy in his room, playing with toys. The first few actions of the opening create enigmas like: why is he so quiet?

following traditional generic conventions of a horror I looked into styles of genres.
Genres consists of 'patterns/styles/structures which transcend individual films, and which supervise both their construction by the films-maker and their reading by an audience'.
Also, I looked into how it attracts the audience. Genre is constituted by specific systems of expectations and hypothesis which spectators bring with them to the cinema and which interact with the films themselves during the course of the viewing process.
Therefore, I believe the audience will bring their own knowledge of the horror genre and have certain expectations of the film that we can play with in order to give them pleasure.

Soundtrack was added to build and create tension during the shots. It creates suspense for the audience and can be used to fool the audience into when the climax will happen.

Panning helps to either establish a shot or to follow a character as if the audience is they’re following her secretly; this creates tension and brings the audience into the film.

Transitions between shots are relatively sudden to surprise the audience they happen relatively frequently to keep the audience guessing on what is going to happen next.

Soundtrack was added to fit with the images; this would have to also have to fit in with the horror theme and the story line of the film.

Overall, I believe my main product, challenging and develop forms and conventions of real media products. I believe they look realistic and would easily fit into the horror genre.
I feel that our horror film does actually challenge conventions via the character gender switch. But, uses traditional horror tropes and follows the form of an original horror film.
