3. What kind
of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The media institutions that might be interested in
distributing our media product would be The UK Film Council, Vertigo Films and Films Four. I think they
would be interested because from looking at films they distribute I can see
that they are the main institutions that distribute films in the Horror.
How we created our film opening enables a potential
decent plot and is similar to the films in which the institutions distribute.
It is particularly more similar to the wrong turn franchise as our film is
based on murderer not knowing that he’s killing a victim. As this is quite
popular, I think that they would definitely distribute our film as I think it
would do quite theatrically and also the film would be of a high budget, as it
would do incredibly well with special effects.
as the four media institutions were the most popular institutions I decided to research further about them. I did this to find out if they would be suitable to go to ask if they would distribute my film.
The UK Film Council- this institution has backed more than 900 films of which include feature and short films. their goal is make the UK a global centre for films amongst the worlds competitive film industry. The support many up coming film directors, by funding their British films to attract a wider audience. The money the film council has money provided by the lottery. They also are in partnership with British Film Institution, Skill set, First light, Film Club and Regional and national screen agencies.
Vertigo Films- it is a UK media company which creates and distribute commercially driven independent cinema. They use new technology and they pay attention to the budgets, this is to address their audience in the most care to produce films that the audience approves off; that they are authentic to what is trying to be represented.
Film Four- Film Four showcases a wide-range of British made films and international films that come from all over the world. They don't just show films they also produce many films. Some of their awarding winning films include 'This is England' by Shane Meadows.
Film Four is partnered with Warp X Films where they challenge British and International films creating new ones for a lower budget, with the intention of expanding the niche audience.
For my film I would consider approaching all of these institutions, so that my budget issues would be covered. These institutions are well known throughout the UK, I would hope that my film would attract the interest of many UK film audience members and help to widen the Niche audience group of a social realism film.
