evaluation- question 2

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Character
Social group
How represented
Stereotypes
Effect on audience
Riley

Aged 6
Male
Is represented as the lighter character in the film opening, which is a positive representation. Dressing the character in lighter attire, which makes the character seem more innocent, did this.
This character was supposed to be a stereotypical young male, we show him as an innocent boy in the first scene, as he was playing with his toys like other children at his age would do.
It makes the audience relate to the character more than the other character and they fear for his safety when riley was playing with the toys and he heard a noise, which the audience the doesn’t know where it came from or what it was. It was also frightening when riley held a knife, as the audience didn’t know what he was going to do with the knife.

Sophie
Aged 27
Female
Riley’s mother
Lower middle class.
Sophie is represented as a typical single parent with a son who she has to also look after. In the opening scenes, Sophie looks innocent and normal.
Sophie was supposed to be a stereotypical mother, we show her as an ordinary mother, with a young son. Her responsibility is to look after her son, as we see in the opening scenes, as she calls him down to have his dinner.
It makes the audience relate to the character and they fear for the mother too, as when she's walking to Riley's room Riley is holding a knife and we don't know what riley is going to do with the knife in his, but in the audience point of view, they think Riley is going to hurt the mother with the knife.
